III to I Financial Management Research (FMR), the firm that supports the CWA investment community, is undergoing a company reposition beginning with a new name. As of February 1, FMR is now Tectonic Advisors. The Plano-based company has also announced a new CEO. A. Haag Sherman, formerly of Salient Partners, a Houston-based investment firm with more than $20 billion in assets under management, will take the reins at Tectonic with a focus on expansion into ETF strategies.
According to Tectonic chairman Darrell Cain, it was FMR’s positive growth that spurred the changes. “We knew the time was right to not only reposition the firm to better reflect the investment services we provide our clients, but also to bring in leadership with the depth and breadth of knowledge and experience that Haag holds,” he explained. “We’re thrilled about the direction he has set and look forward to driving more positive expansion under his leadership.”
Sherman added, “Our goal for Tectonic is to build on what is already a successful infrastructure by adding new strategies that were designed to provide investors with consistency and competitive pricing. These strategies include risk-management parameters created to respond to changing markets and preserve capital. Our plan is also to distribute these strategies on a broader basis.”
Prior to joining Tectonic, Sherman co-founded and served in various executive capacities, including CEO and CIO of Salient Partners, L.P. While there he was instrumental in the development of many of the firm’s investment products including co-inventing a CRM patented to assist in the distribution of the firm’s investment products.
Before co-founding Salient, Mr. Sherman was a partner and executive officer at Redstone where he focused on private equity and alternative investments. He began his career with Price Waterhouse and also practiced corporate law for Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer, & Feld LLP. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and a graduate of Baylor University and The University of Texas School of Law.
Mr. Sherman serves on several public company boards, including Hilltop Holdings, Inc., ZaZa Energy Corp., and Miller Energy Resources, Inc. In addition, he serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations and as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law.
Mr. Sherman has written extensively and has contributed to publications such as Barron’s, MarketWatch, the Huffington Post and the Houston Chronicle on a range of financial and economic topics. He authored Shattering Orthodoxies: An Economic and Foreign Policy Blueprint for America, which rose to no. 6 in Amazon’s social policy category.
